Underwater kigs

Post by my415 »

I've seen photos online of kigs doing photoshoots underwater. Any idea how they do it?

You do have to consider the rather extreme safety risk that the kigs are taking when going underwater for photoshoots. Wearing the mask in water literally means near zero vision and the risk of drowning is very, very high if anything goes wrong. Those who do photoshoots underwater are more likely to be experienced professional swimmers.

Do not take any chances or risks that may endanger your safety, even if it looks cool.

Of course I am not taking the risk. I just want to know how they do it.

My best guess: Hold their breath really, really long. A snorkel tube will very likely won't fit inside the mask. I imagine the time spent underwater is less than 30 seconds, surfacing frequently to remove the mask and breath in the fresh air before diving again.

We actually shot underwater at the 2017 eurokigurumi Xmas meet.
There was a swimming pool on site. One of us had a go pro and some of us tried to swim underwater long enough to get the shot.
There's some lovely footage of Cloud.
My attempt was a mess. The mask is very buoyant which made swimming awkward.
There were several strong swimmers around to help put if anything went wrong.
Thankfully the only thing that went wrong was I fell off the duck...
I never met a chocolate cake i didn't like.
