Get into the "spirit" of Halloween!
MaskChat is holding a Halloween Costume Contest! Show us who you want to be on Halloween. Create the most interesting picture you can. Dazzle us with your costume skills. Impress us with your staging and posing! Become your character! Surprise us!
Winner gets a secret prize they'll be able to brag about to other maskers (very little monetary value... we spend all our money on our masking stuff, we can't even afford our own server yet... but we promise it's a fun prize!)
Contest Rules:
1- You must be masked. The mask must cover your whole face, and create a character. No hoods (latex, zentai, etc.) unless they are an element of a costume that also includes an actual mask.
2- You must be costumed. Putting on a Greyland Lolita mask, and wearing a t-shirt with a sticker that reads "Hi, my name is GOD" lacks effort. You don't have to spend lots of money, but use what you have creatively!
3- No PhotoShop. We will allow for some color corrections and lighting adjustments, as well as blurring the background for those of you who are still "in the closet" about your masking, but no
"airbrushing", hiding of flaws, smoothing, addition of fake backgrounds. We want pictures, not CG.
4- No "digital" masks. With the release of FaceRig (and the existence of other similar products) some of you might be tempted to hide behind a CG mask. This is not allowed. We want to see you, not a digital puppet.
5- No nudity. Keep it PG: the pictures will be posted on the MaskChat Facebook group, and we can't afford to get in trouble with Facebook. If your costume allows it and you want to show your (fake) boobs, come and do it live on Maskchat on Halloween night!
To participate:
Step 1: Dress up and take a bunch of pictures!
Step 2: Pick the one picture that most captures your character or your "Halloween Spirit"
Step 3: Post your picture on the MaskChat Facebook Group, at https://www.facebook.com/groups/maskchat/ . Add your picture to the "MaskChat Halloween Costume Contest 2014" Photo Album.
Each participant is only allowed one entry, which means a single picture, so make it count. Any subsequent pictures uploaded by one person will be deleted.
Female maskers, male maskers, kigurumi, and furries are all allowed, as long as you stick to the rules above.
The judges (your lovable -- and just! -- MaskChat mods) will make an initial selection of the top entries, to be announced on November 1st, and a popular vote will follow, open to all MaskChat FaceBook Group members.
The judges will select the top entries based on the following criteria:
- How much we like the costume (workmanship and effort, how impressive the costume looks, how well it fits the chosen character -- even if it's an original character.)
- Staging and posing: how much you make us believe you ARE the character. This includes how you pose yourself, how you use your environment to complete the picture, and how you fit in with that environment.
- Fun: make your picture entertaining! Make it funny! Don't just stand there, do something!
- Halloween Spirit: it's the theme of the contest. That doesn't mean you all have to dress up as pumpkins and witches, but if you can remind us that this is for Halloween, or what Halloween means to you, you will score some points.
And for those of you who don't have a party to go to on Halloween night, come join our "virtual party" on MaskChat! Put on your costume again, and show it off in the chat. You won't score any more points with the judges, but you might get some for the popular vote that comes after!

Open voting will commence November 3 and will be open until November 9.
Winner will be announced November 10, 2014.
